These past two weeks, I have focused on compiling all of my research. I conducted my research speech, which was a speech around 10 minutes long that encompassed my interviews, secondary research, and plans for original work. Since it was a relatively long speech, I learned how to use an outline to branch off of for my speech rather than memorizing a speech word for word. This is an important skill I can apply in my future ISM speeches and other areas of life. As long as I have a good understanding of the topics, I will be able to effectively use an outline to elaborate without having to put such pressure on my memory. To guide my original work, I looked into formats for research recommendations over the break. I learned the approaches such recommendations take to research, such as identifying specific aspects of the study that should be improved. I also researched the topic of pediatric cataract surgery more in-depth for my original work, focusing on posterior capsular opacification and the effects of IOL lenses. This coming week, I hope to make great progress on my original work by doing even further research to make my recommendations detailed. I am looking forward to learning even more about these areas of pediatric ophthalmology.
