This past week, I have focused on brainstorming for my original work proposal. At first, it was challenging to come up with an idea that contributed to the field of pediatric ophthalmology and encompassed what I had learned. To overcome this, I reviewed the research I had done and narrowed down the topics to the most pressing issues of the field. One of the areas that most fascinated me was the pattern of how adult research is oftentimes used in pediatric ophthalmology with undercalculations. As this can lead to inaccuracies in various procedures, I realized how important it is to draw more attention to direct research for pediatric ophthalmology. Many factors differentiate pediatric ophthalmology from general ophthalmology and it is important to have specific research for the field. Thus, I propose to have my original work be a plan of recommendations for ophthalmologists to research regarding pediatric ophthalmology. I hope my original work can draw more attention to the specialized needs of the field, in addition to guiding ophthalmologists to research my recommendations. This can benefit both the patients and ophthalmologists with procedures being more fit toward pediatric patients. To execute my proposal, I will need to further research the procedures of the pediatric ophthalmology field to best identify the areas that I will focus on. I also need to learn more about the research process in the medical field so I can realistically and effectively outline the plan. I am looking forward to continuing to develop my original work in the coming weeks.
