Interviewing!

10/18/2021

This week, I conducted my first interviews with professionals. I interviewed Dr. Qureshi, a pediatric surgeon who provided insight into the field and medical path. We discussed the work-life of a pediatric surgeon, along with the experience of working with children. I also learned much about the complexities of pediatric surgery, such as the incorporation of technology and areas Dr. Qureshi believes are in need of more research. Dr. Qureshi described the stimulation of the medical path, which although is challenging, is worth it looking back. This inspires me to be excited about the medical field and its challenges. Additionally, I interviewed Dr. Wang this week, who is a retina specialist. She taught me many specifics of the procedures she conducts. Dr. Wang described many interesting advances in the technology in the field that I hope to look into further in my future research. Since she sees both pediatric and adult patients, she also provided great insight into the nuances of the specialty. Overall, both professionals provided me with very useful information as I pursue knowledge of pediatrics. I have a few more interviews scheduled in the coming weeks, each with a different specialty, and I am eager to learn different perspectives of the medical field.
