As I continue with my ISM journey, I am exploring my chosen field of study more extensively through research. I find it very interesting to see what the procedures involved in pediatric ophthalmology entail and how they are applied to various eye conditions. Through my research assessment, I have dove deeper into the effects of COVID-19 on the pediatric ophthalmology field, including how there are eye conditions associated with the virus. I learned how the behavior and vulnerability of children, along with the prevalence of surgical procedures in the field, play a role in how pediatric ophthalmology must be adjusted differently to the pandemic compared to other medical specialties. I think this information is incredibly valuable and applicable to the current state of the medical field as I seek to become involved in the onsite experience of pediatric ophthalmology. This research has led me to develop a greater curiosity about the science and terminology of the field, which I hope to further learn about in my future research. With new knowledge from this research, I drafted some interview questions this week. I hope to refine them next week and make more steps in professional growth by reaching out to professionals. I am so excited to gain more insight into pediatric ophthalmology through interviews and research.
