Since the beginning of ISM two weeks ago, I have learned how to navigate numerous aspects of the professional world. First, I used a strategy to learn names through repetition, which is essential when addressing someone in conversation. I practiced this through conversations that had a topic goal, a skill that assists with future interviews.
Next, I learned how to effectively develop an introduction speech about my purpose and goals in the field of pediatric ophthalmology. This brought up a challenge in the memorization of the speech, but I overcame it through practicing and devoting time toward it, which proved beneficial in making my deliverance smooth. However, my speech can still be improved by adding more engaging aspects and maintaining a style that is not monotone. An effective introduction speech is essential in order to convey a context of my interest and growth in the field of pediatric ophthalmology.
In order to take steps in making connections in my field of study, I created a LinkedIn. I formed a summary and added my skills and experience in different areas. I also made a digital portfolio on Wix, which proved to have various challenges in the navigation of the website formatting. I will overcome this by exploring the options on the website more, doing research, and asking questions if issues are still present. On the website, I developed a color and graphic theme based on my topic and what I wish to convey. I think I still need to work on this to make both my LinkedIn and digital portfolio have a more cohesive, meaningful theme that adds to my work. I see that I still need to focus on my professional growth in making connections now that my LinkedIn is set up. Through these tasks, I have learned ways of how to professionally enter the field of pediatric ophthalmology and can continue to discover more about the field’s specifics.
