This week, I mainly focused on expanding my knowledge of the pediatric ophthalmology field through research. I learned to utilize PubMed to discover reliable sources for research that are peer-reviewed by medical professionals. In my future research, I can look to PubMed and Mackinvia to find information about the field that is credible. Through my research assessment this week, I gained a better understanding of the current needs of the pediatric ophthalmology field and the plans to meet such needs. I am very interested in ophthalmic needs in infants, as I did not previously have knowledge of how that age group was impacted and I am passionate about working with them. I learned that there is a greater need for ophthalmic care in the modern-day than in previous years, which leaves me wondering what efforts are being taken toward this issue such as possible nonprofit organizations. Through researching ophthalmic procedures in children, I gained a sense of how the field still needs further research in some areas. I discovered an interest in the application of new technology to improve the field, which I hope to pursue in my research next week. I also plan to refine my resume to better encompass my work. Overall, I am fascinated by how the pediatric ophthalmology field is adapting to changes in the world and is being refined to provide the best care in the future.
